Walking Festival: Stow to Galashiels, Saturday 24 April

The upcoming Galashiels Walking Festival is coming to Stow on Saturday 24 April 2021, following beautiful (and challenging) routes to Galashiels. Working with our friends in Scottish Borders Walks, Stow Community Trust will help to lead the walks.

You’ve got the choice of two walks:

WALK ONE – GRADED STRENUOUS
Although still strenuous, the first gives you the chance to take the “hill route” to Gala. Leaving Stow, the walk heads out of the village and takes in the tracks that weave through the Long Park wind-farms before heading through Ladhope More and over Blaikes Hill and on to Galashiels.

This is still strenuous with steep climbs, boggy underfoot and remote open areas. You should be fully equipped with suitable walking gear/food/water/hot drink and have a good level of fitness.

Start time – 0930
Distance – 9 miles (approx time – 8 hours)
Ascent 330 metres
Grading – STRENUOUS

Walk start – Stow Railway Station, 37 – 39 Station Road, Stow, Scottish Borders, TD1 2SQ

Walk end – Galashiels Interchange/Railway Station

WALK TWO – GRADED VERY STRENUOUS
This walk is significantly more demanding and will allow walkers to take in the slopes of Torsonce Hill, Caitha Hill and William Law before heading through Ladhope More and over Blaikes Hill and on to Galashiels. Due to it being lambing season this walk may be dictated by what livestock are in fields.

This is a strenuous walk with steep climbs, boggy underfoot and remote open areas. You should be fully equipped with suitable walking gear/food/water/hot drink and have a good level of fitness.

Start time – 0900
Distance – 10 miles (approx time – 8 hours)
Ascent 500 metres
Grading – VERY STRENUOUS

Walk start – Stow Railway Station, 37-39 Station Road, Stow, Scottish Borders, TD1 2SQ

Walk end – Galashiels Interchange/Railway Station
